Dwarkasing indra Msc.

Introduction I’ve a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Communication and a master's degree in education and research for sustainable development. My research thesis consisted of the impact on how providing information on conserving the environment and recycling can raise people's awareness. The "Pet in Net" initiated by Samarja Foundation was integrated with my research thesis. I have also had the honor in partaking many trainings in various countries like, India, China, The Netherlands, Trinidad and Japan on Education, Environment, Communication and journalism. Previously I was involved in the "Pet in Net" project, where I was responsible for collecting and analyzing the data for my research report. I am a member of Samarja's research council for almost a year. One of the projects which will be implemented in the future by Samarja is "Composting Kitchen waste", in which I will also participate. "Composting Kitchen waste" is the action plan I presented in Okinawa, Japan, as part of my "Sustainable Solid Waste Management for Caricom Member States" training program. Kitchen waste is can easily be reduced with the right method and this action plan aims to reduce kitchen waste in Suriname.

Joeman Iref Bsc.

Introduction My name is Iref Joeman, I have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and I am a citizen of Suriname. I am a Junior Mechanical Engineer by profession working at a local Engineering Firm. At Samarja I am currently functioning as a Recycling Engineer, where I am assigned for numerous projects. Approximately two years ago I was lucky and honored to be chosen by JICA, Japan International Cooperation Agency to represent Suriname and Samarja for the Sustainable Solid Waste Management Caricom Member States training program. Samarja is currently implementing various projects where the whole team will do their utmost best in successfully completing them. Starting as a volunteer in the early years of Samarja, I followed up my participation within the foundation by researching and graduating in Recycling PET- bottles in Suriname. This organization is renowned for its many projects in sustaining the environment, these projects focuses on environmental awareness and recycling PET-bottles which is one of the many waste produced in the country. Samarja is currently conducting many projects, these projects are : • SENA which stands for Samarja Environmental Networking Archive • SRD, Samarja Recycling Division for recycling PET-bottles and Aluminum cans • Composting • Aquaponics on display • Building an app at this year's Hackathon The aforementioned projects will be implemented this year, aside from these projects Samarja has successfully conducted numerous projects in the past and these are : • Groene Leskist in dutch or Green education box, elementary schools were provided with a box containing educational materials in raising environmental awareness and educating the pupils on how to preserve the environment • The Pet in Net project, where a community in this case the Tamenga resort was provided with net bags for collecting PET-bottles and cans. This was followed up by a survey in which data was collected on how the whole community reacted to the awareness program and participating in the collection of the PET-bottles and cans. Our aim at Samarja is to increase the number of recycling activities and to educate people why it is important to recycle and preserve the environment. The number of waste is increasing, it is time to react now if we want to leave a healthy and habitable planet for our future generations.
